Howard Hughes Research Fellows Program | Jun – Jul 2011

The focus of the Research Fellows Program is an individual research mentorship conducted by each participant in one of the University’s laboratories in whole organism biology, biochemistry, cell or molecular biology, immunology, or other areas of the life sciences. Students join project teams defined by faculty mentors and report their results in a poster session held at the end of the program. Seminars, workshops, informational meetings about research careers, and other group activities are required components of the program.
 

Summer Residential Governor’s School | Jun – Jul 2009

Each Summer Residential Governor’s School focuses on one special area of interest. Students are involved in classroom and laboratory work, field studies, research, individual and group projects and performances, and seminars with noted scholars, visiting artists, and other professionals. In the two mentorships, students are selected to work side-by-side with research scientists, physicians, and a variety of other professionals. While I elected not to participate in this program, I’m very grateful to have been one of the thirty students accepted to the highly competitive Life Science & Medicine program from the state of Virginia.
