7 Cups of Tea Active Listener (2014 - Present)
Vienna, VA | 4 hours per week
7 Cups of Tea is an online support service that offers a secure, anonymous network of active listeners such as myself to provide an open ear for those in need. Users can request to chat with a listener when they are navigating through hard times, dealing with loss, struggling with health issues, or just need to vent about an isolated incident.
Partners in Education Volunteer (2014 - Present)
Duke DC Alumni Organization | 1-2 hours per week
The award-winning Partners-in-Education (PIE) Program works with Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School and the Community Academy Public Charter Schools (CAPCS) in Washington, D.C. Duke DC alumni volunteers accompany children on monthly enrichment trips, and PIE sponsors the tuition for two students to attend Camp Twin Creeks in West Virginia each summer.
VITAS Hospice Volunteer (2014 - Present)
Vienna, VA | 1-3 hours per week
Volunteers are trained to meet the needs of patients and their families by conversing with them, reading to them, or just listening to music and crafting alongside them.
Duke Red Cross FACT Program (2011 – 2014)
East Durham Community Center | 1 hour per week
Public education program which covers topics ranging from nutrition to cancer biology to first aid. Volunteers present an assortment of lesson plans in fun and innovative ways to children ages 8-16, promoting first aid and personal safety awareness.
Duke University Hospital Volunteer (2010 – 2014)
Duke University Medical Center | 4 hours per week
Volunteers in this program work toward establishing and maintaining a sense of normalcy for patients by chatting with them in the waiting areas, ensuring that refreshments are restocked and available for their consumption, and providing a listening ear during their stay at the DUMC.
