The Roundup: Summer Food Trucks
Yesterday was the first official day of the Smithsonian Science Education Center's 2014 International K-12 Science Education Institute for Leadership Development & Strategic Training! We met with the faculty to get to know one another and plan for the week. Today is the SSEC's 2014 Leadership Development Forum featuring Dr. Katherine McNeill and Dr. Leema Berland. They'll be speaking with us about supporting best practices in the K-8 science classroom using argumentation and modeling.
This past week has been jam-packed with DukeDC events and end-of-summer wrap-up events! On Tuesday, Annie and Olivia (the two other professional development interns) came with me to check out the food trucks right behind our office building - we found the best Indian veggie plates at Saran's.
Monday and Tuesday also featured several DukeDC meetings - I was able to pay a visit to the DukeDC office, which looks really lovely! Right next door to DukeDC is Jose Andres' mediterranean restaurant, Zaytinya! Amazing hommus and pita bread - would definitely recommend!
On Wednesday, a friend of mine from college was paying DC a visit and we decided to try Jaleo (Mexican fusion tapas) for dinner! We had the best time - she tried the blood orange sparking soda and I tride the limonata Italian soda, along with song really tasty tapas of course!
On Thursday in the office, after packing everything away for the events of next week, we attended the 2014 SSEC Intern Luncheon. I coordinated a little dessert potluck and ended up bringing mini chicken salad wraps, mini turkey and asiago sandwiches on rye, and mini ham and asiago sandwiches on rye.
Thursday night one of my supervisors wanted to celebrate a successful Energy Academy and we went out to District Commons and then Burger Tap & Shake next door for a really killer cookies 'n' cream milkshake!
The week has been great, but this weekend and next week will be the main event! This summer has been amazing, and I'm glad to see the team's hard work finally come to fruition for the two great events that I mentioned above.
