The Skinny: Top 3 Artists

One of my all-time favorite blogs, Design*Sponge, regularly features artists for their Fine Art Focus column. I marvel at what these artists can do with mixed media. Some of the pieces take my breath away with their intricacy. I imagine the artists having to be so incredibly delicate with the piece and knowing that I wouldn't have the patience (or skill) to do the amazing things that they do. I also wanted to throw a different type of artists into the mix - a writer! So from the archives, here are my top three favorite artists from the past month!

Zacarias is a contemporary artist that works out of her studio in Brooklyn, NY. Her installations look like beautiful textured murals. The bold colors and striking geometric designs make her works magnificent.

  • Masako Miki Miki is a contemporary artist that works out of her studio in Berkeley, CA. Her installations feature flora and fauna; they also involve extreme attention to detail as she oftentimes works with just a calligraphy pen and ink! Her mixed media is absolutely beautiful

Alexievich was award this year's Nobel Prize in Literature for her journalistic excellence in detailing the emotional aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The author said, “I’ve been searching for a genre that would be most adequate to my vision of the world to convey how my ear hears and my eyes see life. I tried this and that and finally I chose a genre where human voices speak for themselves. But I don’t just record a dry history of events and facts, I’m writing a history of human feelings.”

All three of these artists absolutely blow me away! I've been working on collecting some pieces to print for my apartment next year and trying to figure out how to turn a house into a home. I think these pieces have a lot of each artist's individual personality. I've also been using some of my own creative juju to design some of my own prints for the apartment. I'm hoping to do a 3x3 print installation in the living area. More details on that project to come, but until next time, wishing everybody a very happy November!
